I use foobar2k and I know J River can use them as well. You do need to use an audio player which can use VST plugins. This is the only one I know of that has useful adjustments for matching your own HRTF. It looks like they have a demo pack of all their plugins here.

It used to be sold separately, but is now only part of this pack of VST plugins. I use TB Isone, a stereo only VST plugin with HRTF adjustment along with speaker and room simulation abilities.

I have a Windows 10 PC, so something compatible with that.Ī simpler way to put this: how can I best get the music out of my head and in front of me in the room using software DSP? I'm completely new to this, although I have a solid basic understanding of the auditory system, HRTF, headphone design theory, etc. Most of my listening is 2-channel music and I'm not much into watching movies alone or playing video games. I'd be most interested in something that emulates not only surround sound, but also stereo (I believe the Smyth works in both surround and stereo). What I'd like to ask the forum is whether people know of any good software that performs a similar function to the Smyth Realiser (although it needn't be based on my particular speaker system). I also just bought a modest but quite nice new pair of headphones (NAD HP50) that I'd like to play around with.

I'm pretty new to the idea of using headphones for enjoyment, but I noticed in another thread a couple of very experienced members discussing the Smyth Realiser and how surprisingly impressed they were with it.
